When it became obvious that some Tennessee Walking Horse organizations were motivated to maintain the status quo of the industry (soring for money) instead of embracing a future of sound prosperity and success for the Natural Walking Horse, a group of sound horse advocates and professionals formed a new breed association, the World Walking Horse Association, Inc. Across the nation and the world, the voice of reason has been unequivocal – the best and most valuable Walking Horse rides sound, and rides natural. This is the future of our breed, and it is reflected in our motto: To Preserve, Protect, and Promote the Walking Horse. Our mission statement also recognizes the value in preservation of a breed that has too long been held hostage by artificiality and abuse. The World Walking Horse Association, Inc.’s mission is to record and preserve the pedigrees of the Walking Horse while maintaining the integrity of the breed, its versatility, and most importantly, its inherently natural, evenly timed, four-beat walking gaits. We believe the Walking Horse deserves a level playing field in which to display its talents – a field free of cheaters, abusers, and those who prize artificiality at the expense of the horse. The World Walking Horse Association, Inc. released an emotionally charged video on Wednesday, May 21st, 2014 to the general public to help gain support and financial donations for the American Walking Horse Alliance’s Walk on Washington rally to be held at the Nation’s Capitol front lawn June 18th, 2014 at 1:30 pm. The rally is a grassroots effort to bring attention to the Prevent All Soring Tactics Act also known as the PAST ACT. The World Walking Horse Association, Inc. is also proud to be a sponsor of the Walk on Washington. In January 2014, the World Walking Horse Association, Inc. opened its doors for members to start registering their Walking Horses; since doing so, we have seen a steady number of registrations each month. In June, the World Walking Horse Association, Inc. will be officially launching our Alternative Registry. The purpose of the Alternative Registry is to provide an amnesty opportunity for all owners of unregistered Walking Horses with lost or missing bloodlines to register their horse so they can document and track the horse’s progeny, the horse’s DNA type, and the horse’s accomplishments in all aspects of horsemanship. The World Walking Horse Association, Inc. recognizes that hardships with other registries and within a horse’s life can result in lost records and lost heritage for a Walking Horse. The Alternative Registry is designed to return lost horses to registration status for the purpose of competing or breeding. Alternative Registry horses will be eligible for point accruement and may produce registerable stock, if bred to a full blooded Walking Horse. Alternative registry horses are required to have a DNA test performed to determine Walking Horse lineage. With advancements from Texas A&M this is now possible.[su_spacer size=”10″] The World Walking Horse Association, Inc. has also introduced the following programs:Horseback Riding Program: The World Walking Horse Association, Inc.’s Horse Back Riding Program is designed to reward members who spend time riding their registered WWHA Walking Horse and other breeds.Alternative Show Program: The World Walking Horse Association, Inc. knows that our members’ riding and driving activities are diverse; through the Alternative Showing Program, members can get recognition for accomplishments in the disciplines they most enjoy at events like 4-H shows.Ambassadorship Program: The World Walking Horse Association, Inc. recognizes the importance of proper education and ambassadorship in the role of expanding the popularity and desirability of the Walking Horse.
